Versaperm manufactures gas permeability testing equipment, offers a comprehensive permeability testing service and a materials consultancy. These are used to measure gas permeability and leakage, important in medical and pharmaceutical packaging, foils and films, coatings, food and confectionery packaging and contents, and many other applications.

Versaperm designs and manufactures instruments to meet each customer’s needs. Instruments are typically be based on a modular MkVI design.


Our laboratory testing service has over 30 years experience to enable us to choose the best technique to measure your sample's permeability both quickly and accurately.

 

Our diverse and growing range of sensors are based on fundamentally different and divergent physical principals. The choice of the right sensor for an application is critical in the successful deployment of the equipment. We are not tied to a sensor manufacturer.

At Versaperm we can measure the permeability for almost any gas / vapour including water vapour, Oxygen, CO2 Hydrogen, Helium, Nitrogen and Hydrocarbons.

Oxygen Permeability

The oxygen sensor used depends on the choice of the customer. We use a wide variety of sensors, sourced from market leaders around the world, and are able to build an instrument around a sensor of the customer's choice.




 

With the Versaperm instrumental system, the specimen is inserted in a chamber which separates the two sides of the sample. One of these is exposed to an inert atmosphere (e.g. a constant flow of nitrogen) while the other is exposed to oxygen. Once a steady state has been achieved the amount of oxygen in the nitrogen is measured with any one of a number of sensors (depending on the sensitivity required) and the permeability is simply read off the screen.

One of the many advantages of the Versaperm meter is that very low rates can quickly be measured.

We customise each instrument to meet the range required by the customer's application.

 

 

Oxygen (O2) permeability is the rate at which oxygen can pass through a material. It is the volume of oxygen that will pass through a unit thickness of the material per unit area per unit time per unit pressure.

Oxygen is the third most abundant element in the universe - and our second most commonly measured transmission rate. It is especially important for food, pharmaceutical degradation, and where corrosion of a packaged component is likely
