InstrumentstestingSensorsGasses and vapoursConsultancy

Versaperm manufactures gas permeability testing equipment, offers a comprehensive permeability testing service and a materials consultancy. These are used to measure gas permeability and leakage, important in medical and pharmaceutical packaging, foils and films, coatings, food and confectionery packaging and contents, and many other applications.

Versaperm designs and manufactures instruments to meet each customer’s needs. Instruments are typically be based on a modular MkVI design.

Our laboratory testing service has over 30 years experience to enable us to choose the best technique to measure your sample's permeability both quickly and accurately.

Water permeability of blister packs

Our diverse and growing range of sensors are based on fundamentally different and divergent physical principals. The choice of the right sensor for an application is critical in the successful deployment of the equipment. We are not tied to a sensor manufacturer.

At Versaperm we can measure the permeability for almost any gas / vapour including water vapour, Oxygen, CO2 Hydrogen, Helium, Nitrogen and Hydrocarbons.

Permeability is often the most critial factor in a material or component's performance. It determines how drugs to loose potency, food goes off, how paper both prints and jams in equipment, how seals work and it can even cause electronics to fail.

Our Consultancy division combines our theoretical and practical Permeability skills in instrument design and manufacture. Permeability Consultancy

Flat Samples

Flat samples are usually clamped between two halves of a diffusion chamber. The Versaperm instruments are unique in their ability to accommodate materials up to approximately 50 mm in thickness in standard mode. Although this is significantly more than most sample
holder designs, in fact it is only a limitation in standard mode, and for some applications, the chamber has been modified to accommodate significantly thicker samples.

Vapour permeability measurement

There are two common chamber sizes, 1/200 m² and 1/1000 m², which can accommodate samples of about 100mmx100mm and 30mmx30mm. Resolution is higher with larger surface areas. Samples should ideally be larger than the minimum to ease handling.

The types of gases that we can measure is constantly growing. We are currently unable to use radioactive or highly toxic gases. However, please call to discuss your application.
