A DEDICATED PAPER TESTING SERVICE

The technical requirements for paper coating have exploded in recent years – “paper coatings” now gets nearly 3,000,000 hits on Google – three times more than a year ago! Yet with virtually all of these, the single most critical characteristic is the seemingly simple one of water vapour permeability.

Water vapour permeability and paper technology experts Versaperm are offering a fast and economical testing service to determine this for either paper or coatings. Water vapour can, for example change wetability, cause paper to jam in machines, ink to go off incorrectly - it controls almost every feature of plain or coated papers. Testing is usually turned around within 24 hours.

The service is based on their new-generation MKVI permeability laboratory instrumentation which provides an exceptionally fast way to test vapour permeability and transmission rate. It can cope with several samples at a time and can give a reading in as little as 30 minutes – whereas the conventional gravimetric measurement technique takes several days and is significantly less accurate.

Versaperm’s MK VI WVTR meter is accurate to better than a few parts per million, with some samples a few parts per hundred million. Sensitivities are in the range 0.05 – 3200g/m²//day.
