Smells can be appealing or off-putting - and nobody wants the smell of one food or snack product to mix with another.  Not only that but, properly controlling the in- and out-flow of gasses and aromatics can increase shelf life by several hundred percent! Sadly, every food product has different requirements and packaging that works well for one product is often actually physically damaging for another.

Fortunately, Versaperm has the answer with its dedicated vapour permeability equipment which can measure this both quickly and precisely.  Results are accurate in the Parts Per Million (PPM) to PPB ranges.  Not only that but it also works on materials such as coatings, laminates, films, card and plastics but also on complete and finished packages and containers. 

The equipment can measure all of the separate permeabilities for any gas mixture with just one overall measurement.   It also works for medical and pharmaceutical products.  The latest Versaperm’s multi-chamber Mass Spectrometry system even allows users to detect the highly volatile top-note aromatic compounds.

The fact that the equipment can either be used on fully packaged products orhas become vitally important as manufacturing processes such as heating, thermoforming, folding, stretching etc. can increase or decrease a package’s vapour permeability by a factor of 400%. 

Where needed the Versaperm equipment can also control temperature, pressure and other factors.  It can also simulate seasonal and diurnal cycles.

As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers a permeability testing service for companies that only need to test packaging or materials on an irregular basis.
